Dating less intelligent man

A scientific research published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin revealed that when a man is faced with live interaction with a woman who is more intelligent than him, he feels that his masculinity is under threat. A smart woman can be his greatest ally. Wondering how? Well, according to Researchers from the University of Buffalo, the University of Texas at Austin, and California Lutheran University, while men are attracted towards women who are more intelligent than them in theory, they feel threatened when it comes to actually dating such ladies. In order to carry out this study, the researchers enlisted men and narrated a hypothetical scenario to them, wherein a woman either outperformed or underperformed them in a Maths or English course. The researchers, then, instructed these males to think of that woman as a romantic partner.

The yet-to-be-released study reports that men 'showed less attraction toward women who outsmarted them'. Men are attracted to the idea of dating intelligent women - but don't actually like the reality of it. Broken into two parts, men were first read a hypothetical scenario involving a woman who either outperformed or underperformed them in a Maths or English course and then made to imagine them as a romantic partner.

However, the second part of the study — when men were asked if they would date such a woman in real life — showed that the men got cold feet. You can find our Community Guidelines in full here. It's a tough world out there Women now associate the dating landscape with the same risks many face going into the arctic tundra.

Men may deny this and profess that they are attracted to smart women, but when you look at the dating scene, the reality tells a different story. Science supports this view.

Why Do Smart Men Date Dumb Girls?

According to a new study published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, the scariest thing you could be this Halloween is, dun dun dun—a smart woman. The study, which focused on perceived distance as it relates to attractiveness, found that while 86 percent of the men surveyed said they want to date intelligent women, they didn't mean like, actually date them in real life. Yes, you read that correctly. Men want to date smart women, just as long as they don't think the women are smarter than they are. The study, which was set up much like a speed-dating event, was split into two rounds.

Men Prefer Dating Women Who Are Less Intelligent Than Them: Study

Smart women can't find men to impregnate them, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology conference in Geneva has been told. These days I'm more concerned about avoiding pregnancy than freezing my eggs. I can, however, relate to the difficulties faced by smart women in the dating scene. Anecdotal evidence suggests men often "date down", choosing partners less intelligent than themselves. Bright, accomplished women often complain that men are "intimidated" by them, and that they need to play down their accomplishments to get a date. When it comes to heterosexual dating, smart women could take a leaf out of our male counterparts' books, writes Kerri Sackville. And, a couple of years ago, researchers confirmed this. While men claimed to be attracted to very smart women, in actuality they shied away from those who seemed more intelligent than them. Except this unwillingness of men to date smart women really tells only half the story. There's another issue, which no one seems to talk about, and that is the single-minded insistence on the part of smart women to marry smart men.

Screen Grab via SF Gate A writer at The Gloss came across a study that concludes that men prefer to date women who aren't as smart as they are.

So, what gives? Throughout your life, your above average intelligence has allowed you to pass tests with ease and pretty much always know the right, no matter what the question is. Right, because you usually ARE right. For example:

Preference for dating smarter partners negatively affects women’s attitudes toward STEM

Recently my friend Jennifer Wright at TheGloss. She asked me about why this might be, assuming it was true at all. Then she wrote about it for The Gloss. Here's my answer:. I think its more complex than that. Smart women rationally respond to this by spending more time in school acquiring the tools they think they need in the knowledge economy, and once in the work force, working more and harder. The rewards for the dumb staying in school or working long hours are considerably smaller, so they rationally choose more leisure time. So dumb chicks have both greater opportunities and greater incentives to try harder to date smart men than smart women do. Interestingly, the hedge funder who Jennifer asked gave a very similar answer:. How many hours do you work?

Dating Someone More or Less Intellectual Than You: Can it Work?

A new study from the University of Western Australia suggests that while in theory we want a partner who is smart, people who are too clever may actually be a turn-off. So much for calling ourselves sapiosexual. The brainy bunch, probably secretly looking into their own dating viability and desireability, surveyed young adults and asked them to rate what they found attractive in a partner: The participants were asked how attracted they would be to a potential partner who was more intelligent than 1 percent, 10 percent, 25 percent, 50 percent, 75 percent, 90 percent, and then 99 percent of the population. They were then asked the same question for each of the other three personality traits. However, the study suggests that it may be possible to be too intelligent or too easygoing, with the researchers finding that there was a statistically significant reduction in how attractive intelligence and easygoingness were rated at the 99th percentile, compared to the 90th percentile. When looking at differences between genders, the findings implied that females value kindness and intelligence in a potential partner more than males.

Men are not attracted to intelligent women unless they are good looking, a study has found. New research has confirmed the commonly held notion that the smarter a woman is, the less likely it is a man will fancy her. Afterwards the volunteers were asked to rate each other based on intelligence and attractiveness. After analysing the results, researchers found that women were impressed by men who were either good-looking or intelligent. A woman of good intelligence helped distinguish her from her counterparts, but the cleverer a woman was they found she had to be equally beautiful to be worth pursuing. The study, in the journal Personality and Individual Differences, found that women do not exclude men who are deemed to be less good looking. It said:

Dating an intelligent person can be a double-edged sword. Being physically attractive is not enough anymore. More and more people are gauging their partners based on their conversation skills, interest depth and intellectual achievements. What makes a person smart? Is it their grade point average? Is it their ability to analyze problems and solve them efficiently? Or is it their vast knowledge of nerdy fandoms?

Release Date: March 30, In particular, previous research suggested an incompatibility between romantic goal pursuits and intelligence goal pursuits for women, but not men. The current paper suggests that the incompatibility may be most pronounced for women who prefer partners of greater intelligence. The women in this research also performed worse on a math test and tended to show less identification with math, an academic discipline at the base of science and technology careers. The diluted interest and identification is specific to the perceived masculine fields of math and science and is not a general effect. Participants did not show less interest in careers often considered feminine, such as those in social work or elementary education, says Park.
