The gender roles denoted in this article are interchangeable and are in no way a reflection of what I consider right or wrong. My great-great uncle, Gil, would always tell me the story of how he and his wife of over 75 years, Adelaide, met. It just gave me the warmest feeling hearing him tell it the same way every time. A sort of nostalgia I long for today. In a world where social interaction was, well… social, it seemed people actually got to know each other before engaging in relationships. Then and Now: A Comparison of Dating Today vs. the 1950s

In a world where social interaction was, well… social, it seemed people actually got to know each other before engaging in relationships. However, nowadays, instead of swinging left and right, we swipe left or right based solely on physical appearance. Years ago, it seems our grandparents may have met at the most odd of occasions. Their mothers may have set them up, while others may have met at a dance.
I imagine a lad on his daily paper route may have met the love of his life while delivering to a house where a young gal who was helping her mother garden you know, because children actually helped around the house and went outside. He would make sure to go by that house at the same time every day just to see her face. Maybe she gives him her number and they text until one night they meet up drunk at a party and hook up.
Enjoy telling that story to your grandchildren. The boy may ask his father to borrow the car and only gain permission if he agrees to hand-clean it and promise to be home by midnight. He then walks his date to the passenger side door and proceeds to take her out to dinner and to the park for a walk. He brings her home 10 minutes before curfew and walks her to the front door.
He honks his horn and she comes running out. They go to Chipotle no hate on Chipotle, I love it , and then drive around mindlessly. He takes her home after curfew, and they say goodbye in the car you know, the awkward car hug over the gear shift. So they were actually limited in where they could talk. Handwritten letters were not a thing of the past, either. Many couples would exchange notes in the mail to make sure they always knew they were thinking about each other.
Couples will text each other everything. However, the recognition of those things has been exchanged for usage of emojis and response time. Couples would try to find new things to do. One day they may go to the theater to watch a movie before going to the ice cream parlor, and the next may be full of funnel cakes and other carnival foods at a county fair. Prior to social media, the only social interaction people got was out in public. Necking would refer to anything from the neck and above, while petting referred to actions below.
Humans are humans and always have been. However, it appeared virginity was a much more important thing to hold on to. We are surrounded by sex in all forms of advertising and marketing. Men and women can easily get offended if denied sex and take it personally. Then stick with that. Think I left something out or want to share your opinion?

When getting in a verbal fight, many times we let our emotions take control and dull down our arguments. This invalidates them by making us sound nonintellectual, irrational, and over-emotional.
But there are words that can undermine your opponents' arguments and make them feel like the irrational one. Knowing how they are fighting and arguing can increase your odds of winning a verbal fight exponentially. Use these words instead of letting things escalate. When someone is making an ad hominem attack at you, in lieu of the topic at hand they are insulting you as a person and how you are reacting to the situation instead. An example of this would be fighting with a sibling over them stealing your shirt, and them saying you are being possessive over your stuff rather than answering whether they took the shirt or not.
When you live vicariously through someone, you are living through them and their experiences rather than through your own. Many people live vicariously through another to either avoid their own life, or to feel the pain of those around them. However, you are not entitled to be offended by something that you experience vicariously through another or to make opinions and assumptions because of that. Latin for 'fleeting'.
When someone is volatile, their behavior is erratic or they are suddenly being violent. An example of this would be a friend getting worked up over something small and then suddenly smashing their phone in anger. Latin for 'impudent'. When someone is being petulant, they are being immature and impatient. An example of this is when toddlers throw temper tantrums, but adults can pout over little things as well. Scottish for 'neat'. When someone is being persnickety, they are being picky about every little detail of a matter.
For example, if you are asking someone for something, and they pick apart your word choice in how you ask them. Another example would be them getting worked up over trivial details that in the bigger picture don't matter to the argument at hand. Latin for 'forecful'. When someone is being vehemently emotional with you, they are likely being loud and angry.
An example of this is when people get into fights and as the discussion progresses, both parties slowly get louder and louder the more emotional they get until they are both yelling. Want to win a fight with a friend or significant other and sound like the rational one? Throw one of these words into your vocabulary next time you start yelling. If nothing else, the words will catch them off guard, or better yet, they won't know what they even mean.
