Social experiment online dating fat girl

Online dating can be a bit of a minefield. You're presented with a few lines of information and a handful of pictures — not exactly the easiest way to find the love of your life. And let's face it, while we might not outright lie in our carefully chosen pictures, there's always a little bit of selective editing. A cheeky filter or a good angle can make all the difference, but does it really matter if you don't look totally like your pictures? The guys over at Simple Pickup conducted a "social experiment" to find out.

The Tinder Social Experiments on Fat Bias

What happens when someone's Tinder photos don't match the real-life version? For men and women, the responses are dramatically different -- and definitely a bit sexist. In the world of online dating, women are afraid of meeting a serial killer while men are afraid of meeting someone who is fat, at least according to one survey cited in HBO's documentary, "When Strangers Click: Five Stories From the Internet.

The idea behind Simple Pickup's social experiment was to capture the responses of both males and females who meet someone on Tinder who weighs "a little more than [his or her] photo suggests. First, they found male Tinder matches for a female friend, using photos that showed her appearing physically thin. Then, before the date, they used body adhesives and makeup to make her appear physically larger than in her photos. A hidden camera was set up at the date site to record the reactions of each of the five men she met during the day.

The results were nothing short of awful. Responses ranged from quizzical to angry. One guy claimed he was married. Another went to use the bathroom, but never returned. Are you pregnant? I wasted gas and my time to come over here, and I can't do this. Of the five matches, only one stayed the entire time -- although, at one point he did ask her: A man doesn't have to be attracted to a woman to respect her , yet that's exactly what unfolds in the video.

Just because a woman is fat doesn't mean she isn't sexy -- and encountering a fat woman rather than a thin one does not relieve anyone from practicing human decency. Simple Pickup conducted the same exact experiment with the roles reversed, using a male participant and female Tinder matches, and the results were shockingly different. When the Tinder matches met the man who was made up to appear heavier in person, they were not nearly as blunt as their male counterparts.

Although each one acknowledged he looked different from his photos, most were nice. Three were willing to continue the date or go out with him again, and one gave him a kiss. Okay, I'm going to come outright and say that in this day and age, dating has become sort of like a guessing game.

There is so much pressure to look attractive in order to get more matches, a lot of people either alter their photos or use old photos that do not necessarily capture how they look today. Individual preferences for attraction differ based on the individual. I think what ultimately annoyed all the people engaged through this social experiment, is the fact that the person they were supposed to meet lied about what they look like.

Some of you must be aware of 2 videos on YouTube channel Simple Pickup that have caught the attention of the masses. In the first video, a girl posts her profile on dating website Tinder and arranges for a meetup with a few prospective fellows. The twist here is that she posts a regular picture of herself on her profile but then dons a fat suit just typing that out makes me cringe with annoyance for the meetups to see the reaction garnered from the guys. The second video is of a guy doing the same thing when he meets prospective girlfriends from Tinder. If you have not watched the videos, Here is the one with the girl and Here is the one with the guy. Who's more shallow on Tinder: You may not be surprised by the results of this gender experiment, but it doesn't make it any less appalling. Dating site Simple Pickup is behind the experiment, in which they had an attractive, thin girl wear a fat suit on a number of first Tinder dates and then did the same thing with a guy in the fat suit. In the first video, the guys, predictably, are not happy with the switch-up, with responses varying from awkwardly calling her out for not looking like her photos to getting angry with her for "lying" before storming off. One guy even ditches her middate, saying he just needed to use the restroom. When the roles are reversed and it's a guy in the fat suit, the women are polite, tactful, and engaging. They don't treat him like garbage. In fact, they all stick it out for the full date, giving him advice on what to do in the city and joking around with him, and one even plants a kiss on him at the end. Let this be a valuable lesson: I kid.

The guys behind the male-dating advice site Simple Pickup wanted to see what would happen if they matched up their friend Sarah with some dates on Tinder. But instead of showing up as skinny as the way she looked in her bikini photo, she donned makeup and a fat suit to appear pounds heavier.

Crystal, who lost lb last year after starting an extreme weight loss plan, now receives a lot of attention online for her looks. But the vlogger was curious whether the same men would be interested in her if she had never lost the weight - so she experimented. After she had run out of free likes, Crystal started interacting and flirting with her matches.

Following on - but in a much more tasteful vain - from Sam Pepper's three-part 'social experiment' whereby he got men to pinch women's bottoms in order to stand up for sexual harassment yeah, us neither , two guys decided to make a video about gender discrimination and how both men and women reacted to meeting a stranger from Tinder who is 'larger' than their profile suggests. The video creators speak at the beginning of the video, explaining that whilst the number one fear for women about meeting someone online is that they might be a serial killer legit , the number one fear for men is that they're going to meet someone fat. To 'test' the theory, the creators asked their friend Sarah to line up a few Tinder dates using her usual profile, but when she meets them she will be wearing a fat-suit that adds a considerable amount onto her body weight, to see how her dates would react. Although Sarah is clearly acting and playing up a little bit, the reactions of her dates are first ones of shock and surprise - understandable if they thought they were expecting someone completely different - usually commenting "You look quite different". But then they begin to outline their surprise and shock, and that's when it get ugly. One guy says, "I don't mean to be rude, but in your photos you're a lot skinnier," whilst another says, "you actually look more voluptuous" whilst ACTUALLY gesticulating a curvy body with his hands. When Sarah says, "Well hey, different is good, right?
